What sorts of knives can I have in california?

I'm thinking of getting a fairly long fixed blade knife that I could use (with a hammer) for chopping wood in a survival situation or when camping. I'd like to keep it in the backpack I carry when I go hiking, which I store in the trunk of my car. Would something like this be legal in california? I'm 26 and have no record. When I'm actually out hiking, the knife would be in the bag, not on my belt or anything.
